*Covid19 Updates 8/6/21*: All attendees of the workshop will be asked to wear masks regardless of vaccination status. Seating will be distanced, and all food and beverages will be individually wrapped or in sealed containers. If you are feeling sick, or experiencing any symptoms of Covid19 or otherwise, we ask that you remain at home. If you would prefer to not use shared instruments, please bring a hand-drum, scarf, egg shaker, and various unpitched percussion to any workshop offered.

David Row

David Row loves teaching music to kids! A Nebraska native and Midwesterner at heart, David now lives and teaches in the Cherokee County School District outside of Atlanta, GA. He holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory, completed three levels and a master course in Orff Schulwerk training, and has extensive experience with critical thinking in the arts. David is an active clinician and has presented workshops at state and local conventions across the United States and Canada. On his blog, MakeMomentsMatter.org, David shares ideas about classroom content, management, lesson plans, critical thinking, and more. Search for “Make Moments Matter: A Music Education Podcast!” wherever you download podcasts or catch up with David every week on his “Musical Mondays” LIVE videos on Facebook.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but we will not be ordering Lunch from Jason's Deli at our August workshop. There are several nearby restaurants where you may dine: Bojangles, Manhattan Pizza, City Barbeque, Bad Daddy's Burger Bar; Taza Grill Inc. and more. Attendees may feel free to pack and bring their own food and beverages. Our lunch break will be one hour.
Franklin Willis

For more than a decade, educator, and leader, Franklin Willis has served the students and families of the Metro Nashville Public Schools community. Through music, Willis has educated, mentored, and developed young minds to be forward thinking contributors to society. A servant leader specializing in authentic culturally relevant teaching, empowering student contributions, and developing teachers to reach their full capacity, Willis finds true joy when at the service of others.
Willis has created and facilitated professional development sessions for music teachers of all grade levels sharing his unique and relevant teaching practices. He consistently collaborates with colleagues, community organizations, local businesses, colleges, and universities to advocate for the importance of music education in our schools as well as developing curriculum that will lead to higher engagement from students. Through his work Willis has received national recognition for his commitment to student learning, his passion for the profession and his innovative teaching practices. He is a three-time recipient of the CMA Foundation Music Teacher of Excellence Award. ('16, '18, '19).
Willis is a children’s book author and graduate of the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Music Education with an emphasis in Choral Music in 2009. In 2012, he earned the Master of Education Degree in Nonprofit Leadership from Belmont University. Most recently Willis completed the Education Specialist Degree with an emphasis in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Technological University.
Willis has created and facilitated professional development sessions for music teachers of all grade levels sharing his unique and relevant teaching practices. He consistently collaborates with colleagues, community organizations, local businesses, colleges, and universities to advocate for the importance of music education in our schools as well as developing curriculum that will lead to higher engagement from students. Laura Bercaw Peterson teaches general and choral music at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School in Washington, D.C. Laura earned her Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Gettysburg College and completed her Master of Music in Music Education at George Mason University. She holds Level III and Master Class certifications in Orff Schulwerk pedagogy from George Mason University and has studied at the Orff Institut in Salzburg, Austria. Laura teaches movement in AOSA-approved summer teacher education courses and is an invited presenter both locally and nationally. She recently completed her term as Region IV Representative on the National Board of Trustees of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
