The Way Words Move
Words inspire creative movement in a myriad of directions, pathways, levels and efforts to name a few.  The clear use of language guides us towards greater musical expression in our body actions.  Through guided movement warm-up stories and small group work, participants will explore action word vocabulary, build movement sentences and create MadLib movement stories.  We will examine parts of speech appropriate for each grade level K-8 as well as apply the basic concepts of Laban Movement Analysis to our work.

About the Presenter
Aaron Ford teaches elementary and middle school music at The School at Columbia University in NYC.  He currently teaches Orff Levels I - III Movement at the Anderson University and New York City courses and a week long Mindful Movement Course at Anderson.  Aaron has led national and chapter workshops on creative movement and body awareness and has authored related articles in the Orff Echo and Reverberations. He has completed Anne Green Gilbert’s Brain Compatible Dance Education Foundations course, Dance Education Laboratory’s Foundations of Dance Education, and continues to enjoy studying various Somatics practices.   He has a Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Creative Arts Therapy with a Specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy.

Rock, Paper, Scissors, ORFF!  : We Have More in Common than that Which Divides Us
Using the elements in the well known decision making game as a jumping off point, participants will use folk songs, chant, movement, word chains, and instruments to create music in a variety of ways. Participants can expect to take away endless ideas for what they could immediately use in their classroom or expand for their needs with a variety of grade levels.

About the Presenter
Sarah Theres received her BME from NMSU and her MMED from Vandercook College of Music. She has taught music for 17 years around the country and is a National Board certified teacher.  In 2024 she was a CMA Foundation Music Teacher of Excellence. Sarah is a founding member of the Okaloosa Junior Honor Choir and the Emerald Coast chapter of the AOSA. She has presented nationally for Orff chapters and is published in the Orff Echo.  Sarah’s proudest accomplishment is being a mom to three beautiful children and would not be half the educator she is without the support of her loving husband Kyle.
