Creating Harmony Through Literacy and Music
**Literacy Credit Opportunity**

This workshop will examine theoretical and practical applications for the Science of Literacy that already exist in the music classroom and how to extend your instruction to identify a common language for pedagogy and advocacy using the Orff process. Explore the inherent connections between music and literacy already present in your classroom while engaging in process-oriented activities that enrich your students' development in both music and literacy.

Playing With The Schulwerk
We all want our students to be confident enough in themselves and comfortable enough with the classroom culture to be able to just play. How a child sees themselves in your music classroom is an important aspect of achieving that kind of student success. In this workshop, participants will explore playful uses of children’s literature as the basis for games, movement, singing, and instrumental exploration in which students can find out more about themselves and connect as a classroom community. Come join us and Play with the Schulwerk!
About the Presenter:
Gerard Stokes teaches 4-8 general music in Lincoln, Massachusetts.  He obtained his B.S. in Music Education at South Carolina State University and his M.Ed. in Administration & Supervision from Southern Wesleyan University.  Gerard is an Orff-Certified Educator who attends supplemental courses in Orff-Schulwerk.  He has served on AOSA’s DEIA subcommittee and as president of the Lowcountry Chapter.  He continues to serve as the President of the New England Chapter and on AOSA’s Virtual Programming subcommittee.  Stokes presented for AOSA; at the National Conference in 2023, Professional Learning Network, Teaching with Orff, as well as numerous AOSA chapters.
